RESUMO
Este trabalho constitui um repositório do conhecimento existente sobre as artes e métodos de pesca utilizados no rio Sado e dos portos de pesca frequentados pelas embarcações da pesca artesanal local.

São caracterizados os portos, indicado o número de pescadores profissionais a operar no rio, o número de embarcações licenciadas pela Direcção-Geral das Pescas e Aquicultura em 2003 e as principais espécies desembarcadas em lata em 2003. São descritos sumariamente os métodos, as artes de pesca usadas no rio e apresentados os planos técnicos respectivos.

ABSTRACT
The present study characterises the fishing methods and gears used by the Portuguese fishermen in the Sado River, as well as the fishing ports used by the local artisanal fishery.

Characteristics inc1ude the number of fishermen, the number of vessels licensed by the "Direcção-Geral das Pescas e Aquicultura (Fishing Authority)" in 2003, the main species sold in first market in 2003, a general description of the fishing gears and their respective technical details.
